Argilētum

A district in Rome, extending from the south of the Quirinal to the Capitoline and the Forum. It was chiefly inhabited by mechanics and booksellers (Mart.i. 4). Varro derives the name from argilla, “potter's clay,” and some make it Argi letum, as referring to the hero Argus (Verg. Aen. viii. 346).
