Augustāles

sc. ludi; or, Augustalia, sc. certamina (Σεβαστά, Αὐγουστάλια). Games celebrated in honour of Augustus Caesar at Rome and in other parts of the Empire. Two festivals were known under this name.


1.

The 23d of September, the birthday of Augustus, celebrated after B.C. 13 by games held in the Circus (Dio Cass. liv. 26, 34).


2.

The Augustalia proper held for ten days annually (Oct. 3-12), instituted in B.C. 19, when Augustus returned to Rome after settling the provinces (Dio Cass. liv. 34).
