An Egyptian divinity, the nurse of Horus and Bubastis, the children of Osiris and Isis,
whom she saved from the persecutions of Typhon by concealing them in the floating island of
Chemnis. The Greeks identified her with Leto, and represented her as the goddess of night.

A city in Lower Egypt, stood near the Sebennytic branch of the Nile, on the lake of Buto.
It was celebrated for its oracle of the goddess Buto, in honour of whom a festival was held
at the city every year.
