Crocus

（Κρόκος). A youth who, being unable to obtain the object of his affections, the nymph Smilax, pined away, and was changed into the crocus, or saffron. Smilax herself was metamorphosed into the smilax, or bindweed (Ovid, Met. iv. 283).
