Isădas

Ἴσαδας). A young Spartan, who, when Epaminondas and the Thebans had attacked Lacedaemon and the city was in danger of falling into their hands, rushed forth from his dwelling stark naked and newly anointed with oil, having nothing but a spear in one hand and a sword in the other, and in this condition contended valiantly against the foe. The Ephori honoured him with a chaplet for his gallant achievement, but at the same time fined him 1000 drachmas for having dared to appear without his armour ( Plut. Ages.).
