An ancient town of Latium, three miles from the sea, and six miles east of Laurentum, on the Via Appia, founded by Aeneas, and called Lavinium in honour of his wife Lavinia (Livy, i. 1). It was the sanctuary of the Latin Penates. See Laurentum.
