Leucosyri
(
Λευκόσυροι—i. e. White Syrians). A name given
by the Greeks to the inhabitants of Cappadocia, who were of the Syrian race, in
contradistinction to the Syrian tribes of a darker colour beyond the Taurus. Later, the name
was applied to the people in the north of the country between the rivers Halys and Iris (
Xen. Anab. v. 6).
