Lotus

1.
A plant known to botanists as the
Zizyphus lotus, or jujube. See
Lotophagi.
2.
A species of waterlily (
Nymphaea lotus) found on the Nile and regarded by
the ancient Egyptians as sacred. It appears as a symbol of the Egyptian deities and is very
prominent in works of art, especially in the capitals of columns, the prows of vessels,
