Now Segni. A town in Latium on the east side of the Volscian Mountains, founded by Tarquinius Priscus. It was celebrated for its temple of Iupiter Urius, for its astringent wine (Mart.xiii. 116), for its pears, and for a particular kind of tessellated pavement for the floors of houses, called opus Signinum. There still remains a gate of cyclopean structure, besides parts of the polygonal walls of the ancient city.
