CERVI´CAL (
προσκεφάλαιον,
ποτίκρανον) properly
denotes a pillow or cushion to support the head or shoulder, on a bed or
dining couch (
Mart. 14.146;
Suet. Nero 6;
Plin.
Nat. 20.217, 28.47). The word is also used, like its Greek
equivalents, in a less special sense to denote any cushion (
Juv. 6.353; Petron. 32, 1; 78, 5; Plato,
Rep. i. p. 328 C; Theocr. 15.2). [
