CERVI´CAL

CERVI´CAL (προσκεφάλαιον, ποτίκρανον) properly denotes a pillow or cushion to support the head or shoulder, on a bed or dining couch (Mart. 14.146; Suet. Nero 6; Plin. Nat. 20.217, 28.47). The word is also used, like its Greek equivalents, in a less special sense to denote any cushion (Juv. 6.353; Petron. 32, 1; 78, 5; Plato, Rep. i. p. 328 C; Theocr. 15.2). [PULVINUS]
