CESTICILLUS

CESTICILLUS a porter's knot, pad for carrying burdens, is known to us only through the gloss in Festus (s. v.). The Greek word is τύλη (Aristot. ap. D. L. 9.53, where it is said to have been invented by Protagoras), or στεῖρα, from its being twisted into a circular shape (Apollod. 2.5, 11 § 14). For an illustration, see ARCULUM
