HARPAGES GRAPHE

HARPAGES GRAPHE (ἁρπαγῆς γραφή). Although the Athenians distinguished ἁρπαγὴ from κλοπή (Plat. Legg. xii. p. 941 B; Aristoph. Pl. 372), there does not seem to have existed a γραφὴ ἁρπαγῆς in Attic law. Lucian mentions it (Judic. vocal. 1); according to him, it was applicable to cases of open robbery, attended with violence (Att. Process, ed. Lipsius, p. 457).
