), a large plain in the neighbourhood of Tarraco, in Spain, so called from the quantity of fennel (μάραθρον,
Dor. and Att. μάραθον,
) which grew there.
The plain was traversed by the great Roman road from the Pyrenees to Tarraco. (Strab. iii. p.160
