SEMANTHINI MONTES (τὸ Σημανθινὸν ὄρος, Ptol. 7.2.8), a mountain chain in the country of the Sinae (China), which, according to Ptolemy, extended from the sources of the Aspithra in a NW. direction as far as those of the Serus. It is probably the chain which separates the Chinese province of Yunnan from the districts of Mien and Laotschua.
