AGRIA´NES

Eth. AGRIA´NES (Eth. Ἀγριάν, Ἀγριᾶνες), a Paeonian people, dwelling near the sources of the Strymon. They formed excellent light-armed troops, and are frequently mentioned in the campaigns of Alexander the Great. (Strab. p. 331; Hdt. 5.16; Thuc. 2.96; Arrian, Arr. Anab. 1.1.11, 1.5.1, et alib.)
