ALTHAEA

ALTHAEA (Ἀλθαία: Eth. Ἀλθαῖος), the chief city of the OLCADES in Spain, not far from Carthago Nova. Its capture was Hannibal's first exploit in Spain. (Plb. 3.13; Steph. Byz. s. v.) Its position is unknown. Livy calls it Carteia (21.5).
