ANDEIRA

ANDEIRA (Ἄνδειρα: Eth. Ἀνδειρανός), as it is written in Pliny (5.32), a town of the Troad, the site of which is uncertain. There was a temple of the Mother of the Gods here, whence she had the name Andeirene. (Steph. B. sub voce Ἄνδειρα.) As to the stone found here (Strab. p. 610), which, when “burnt, becomes iron,” and as to the rest of this passage, the reader may consult the note in Groskurd's translation of Strabo (vol. ii. p. 590).
