ANTHE´NE

ANTHE´NE (Ἀνθήνη, Thuc.; Ἀνθάνα, Steph. B. sub voce Ἀθήνη, Paus.: Eth. Ἀνθανεύς, Steph. B. sub voce a town in Cynuria, originally inhabited by the Aeginetans, and mentioned by Thucydides along with Thyrea, as the two chief places in Cynuria. Modern travellers are not agreed respecting its site. (Thuc. 5.41; Paus. 3.38.6; Harpocr. s.v. Leake, Morea, vol. ii. p. 494; Boblaye, p. 69; Ross, Peloponnes, p. 163.)
