APOBATHMI

Eth. APOBATHMI (Ἀπόβαθοι), a small place in Argolis, near the frontiers of Cynuria, was said to have been so called from Danaus landing at this spot. (Paus. 2.38.4.) The surrounding country was also called Pyramia (Πυράμια), from the monuments in the form of pyramids found here. (Plut. Pyrrh. 32; Ross, Reisen im Peloponnes, p. 152.)
