ARGU´RA (
Ἄργουρα: Eth.
Ἀργουραῖος).

Called
ARGISSA (
Ἄργισσα) in Homer (
Hom. Il. 2.738), a town in Pelasgiotis in Thessaly, on the Peneus, and near Larissa.
The distance between this place and Larissa is so small as to explain the remark of the Scholiast on Apollonius, that the Argissa of Homer was the same as Larissa. Leake supposes the site of Argura to be indicated by the tumuli at a little distance from Larissa, extending three quarters of a mile from east to west. (
