AUGUSTA TRICASTINORUM

AUGUSTA TRICASTINORUM as Pliny (3.4) calls it, or Augusta, as it is simply called in the Itineraries. It was on the road between Valentia (Valence), on the Rhone, and Dea Vocontiorum (Die). It is said to be Aoust-en-Diois, on the Drôme a branch of the Rhone, and in the department of Drôme. D'Anville places Augusta Tricastinorum at St. Paultrois-Châteaux, north of Orange; and the Augusta of the Itineraries at Aouste. There are said to be considerable remains at Aouste.
