AXI´ACES

AXI´ACES (Ἀξιάκης: Teligul), a river of Sarmatia Europaea, E. of the Tyras (Dniester), flowing, according to Ptolemy, right through Sarmatia, a little above Dacia, as far as the Carpathi M. On its banks were the people called Axiacae. (Mela, 2.1.7; Plin. Nat. 4.12. s. 26; Ptol. 3.5.18, 10.14; comp. PASIACES.)
