AZA´NIA

AZA´NIA a city belonging to Massilia, according to Stephanus (s. v. Ἀζανία), quoting Philo. The place is only mentioned in this passage, which is worth notice, as adding to the list of Massaliot towns in the south of France. Walckenaer (Géog., &c., vol. i. p. 280) conjectures that it may be at Azillaret, near Azille, in the department of Aude; but this is merely a guess, founded on a resemblance of names.
