BETONIM

BETONIM (Βοτανίμ, Josh 13.26), a city of the tribe of Gad, apparently in the northern border, near the Jabbok. The place existed under the same name in the time of Eusebius. (Reland, p. 661.) There is a village of the name of Batneh in the [p. 1.400]Balka, which corresponds nearly with the tribe of Gad, but as this is south of es-Salt, its situation hardly suits that of Betonim, though there is a striking similarity in the names. (Robinson, Bib. Res. vol. iii. p. 169 of the Appendix.)
