BRA´CARA AUGUSTA

BRA´CARA AUGUSTA (Βραίκαρ Αὐγουστα, Ptol. 2.6.39; Augusta Bracaria, Geog. Rav. 4.43; Braga, Ru.), a city in the NW. of Hispania Tarraconensis, the capital of the Callaïci Bracarii, who dwelt between the rivers Durius and Minus, and the seat of a conventus juridicus. It stood at the meeting of four roads, some distance from the sea, and not far from the left bank of the river Naebis (Cavado). Among its ruins are the remains of an aqueduct and amphitheatre. (Plin.
