BUTHOE

BUTHOE or BUTUA (Βυθόη, Steph. B. sub voce Scylax, p. 9 ; Butua, Plin. Nat. 3.23. s. 26; Βουλούα, an error for Βουτούα, Ptol. 2.16.5 : Eth. Βουθοαῖος: Budoa), a town of Dalmatia in Illyricum, said to have been founded by Cadmus, after he had migrated from Thebes and taken up his residence among the Illyrian tribe of the Enchelees.
