CAERA´TUS

CAERA´TUS (Καίρατος: Karteró), a river of Crete, which flows past Cnossus, which city was once known by the same name as the river. (Strab. x. p.476; Eustath. ad Dionys. Perieg. 5.498; Hesych.; Virg. Ciris, 113, flumina Caeratea; comp. Pashley, Trav. vol. i. p. 263.)
