CALINIPAXA

CALINIPAXA (prob. Kanouge), a city of India intra Gangem, made known to the Greeks by the expedition of Seleuclus Nicator. It stood on the Ganges considerably above its confluence with the Jornanes (Jumna), 625 M. P. above, according to [p. 1.481]the itineraries of the expedition, in which however the numbers were evidently confused. (Plin. Nat. 6.17. s. 21.)
