CIMIATE´NE

CIMIATE´NE (Κιμιατηνή), a division of Paphlagonia, which took its name from a hill fort, Cimiata, at the foot of the range of Olgassys. Mithridates, called Ctistes, made this his stronghold, and so became master of the Pontus. (Strab. p. 562.) As to the proper form of the name, see Groskurd's note (Transl. Strabo, vol. ii. p. 502.) The name of this division is incorrectly written Κινιστηνή in Casaubon's text of Strabo.
