CORDYLE

CORDYLE (Κορδύλη) or PORTUS CHORDYLE (Plin. Nat. 6.4), a place on the coast of Pontus, 40 or 45 stadia east of Hieron Oros or Yoros. (Arrian, p. 17; Anon. p. 13.) Hamilton (Researches, &c. vol. i. p. 248) identifies it with Akjah Káleh, a ruined fort on a rocky promontory, half-way between Platana and Cape Yoros: “it possesses a small open roadstead, called by the Turks a liman or port, to the east of the promontory.” The name occurs in the Table in the form Cordile. There appears to be some confusion in Ptolemy (5.6) about this place. [G.L] [p. 1.673]
