COSTOBO´CI

Eth. COSTOBO´CI (Eth. Κοιστοβῶκοι, Ptol. 3.5.21; Κοστουβῶκοι, D. C. 71.12; Costobocci, Plin. Nat. 6.7; Costobocae, Amm. Marc. 22.8.42; Costoboci, Capitolin. M. Antonin. 100.22), a people of Dacia, probably belonging to the Wendish stock (Schafarik, Slavische Alterthum, vol. i. p. 122). Their position has been sought in the district of Tschernigow.
