CREMNI

Eth. CREMNI (Κρήμνοι), a town of European Sarmatia; W. of the promontory Agarum, and called by Herodotus (4.20, 110) a factory of the free Scythians on the W. of the Palus Maeotis. Mannert (vol. iv. p. 114; comp. Ritter, Vorhalle, p. 156) places it in the neighbourhood of Taganrog. By others it has been sought for at Starí--Krim near Miariupol. (Reichardt, Klein. Geogr. Schrift. p. 285; comp. Eichwald, Alte Geogr. d. Casp. Meer, p. 309.)
