CUMERUS

CUMERUS a promontory of Picenum, on the coast of the Adriatic, still called Monte Comero. (Plin. Nat. 3.13. s. 18.) It is formed by a considerable mountain mass, rising close to the sea-shore, and nearly detached from the mountains of the interior, extending about 10 miles in length. At its northern extremity stood the city of Ancona and the smaller town of Numana (Umana) at its southern end.
