DERIS

DERIS or DERRHIS (Δέρις, Strab. xvii. p.799; Δέρρις, Ptol. 4.5.7; Δέρρον or Δέρρα, Stadiasm. p. 436), a promontory on the coast of Marmarica in N. Africa, between the harbours of Leucaspis and Phoenicus, named from a black rock in the shape of a hide. Pacho takes it for the headland now called El Heyf. (Voyage dans la Marmarique, &c. p. 18.)
