KENIZZITES

Eth. KENIZZITES (Eth. Κεναζαῖοι, LXX.), a Canaanitish tribe. (Gen. 15.19.) Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, is called a Kenezite (Num. 32.12; Josh. 14.6), and Othniel, his younger brother, is also called a son of Kenaz. (Judg. 1.13, 3.9; comp. Josh. 15.17; 1 Chron. 4.13.) Another branch of this race are referred to the Edomites. (Gen 36.11; Winer, s.v. Ritter, Erdkunde, vol. xv. p. 138; Ewald, Gesch. des Volkes Israel. vol. i. p. 338.)
