LE´SORA MONS (Mont Lozère), a summit of the Cévennes, above 4800 feet high, is mentioned by Sidonius Apollinaris (Carm. 24, 44) as containing the source of the Tarnis (Tarn):-- “Hinc te Lesora Caucasum ScytharumVincens aspiciet citusque Tarnis.
” [p. 2.167] The pastures on this mountain produced good cheese in Pliny's time (H. N. 11.42), as they do now. Month Lozère gives its name to the French department Lozère. [G.L]
