LE´SORA MONS

LE´SORA MONS (Mont Lozère), a summit of the Cévennes, above 4800 feet high, is mentioned by Sidonius Apollinaris (Carm. 24, 44) as containing the source of the Tarnis (Tarn):-- “Hinc te Lesora Caucasum Scytharum
Vincens aspiciet citusque Tarnis.
[p. 2.167]

The pastures on this mountain produced good cheese in Pliny's time (H. N. 11.42), as they do now. Month Lozère gives its name to the French department Lozère.
