MANDALAE
MANDALAE (
Μανδάλαι,
Ptol. 7.1.72), an Indian tribe who occupied both banks of the Ganges in the neighbourhood of Palimbothra (
Patna), which was perhaps (as has been conjectured by some geographers), their chief city. They seem
[p. 2.257]however, to have lived rather lower down the river near
Monghir, in the district now called
Behar. (See Lassen's map.)
