MARIDE

MARIDE (Amm. Marc. 18.6), a castle or fortified town in Mesopotamia, mentioned by Ammianus Marcellinus in his account of Constantius. There can be no doubt that it is the same as the present Mardin, which is seated on a considerable eminence looking southward over the plains of Mesopotamia.
