NICIUM

NICIUM or NICIU (Νικίου μητρόπολις, Ptol. 4.5.9), a principal town in the Nomos Prosopites of Lower Aegypt, lay just above Momemphis and nearly midway between Memphis and Alexandreia. It was one of the military stations on the main road between those cities which ran nearly parallel with the Canopic arm of the Nile. [PROSOPITIS.]
