OROANDA

OROANDA a town in the mountains of Pisidia, near the south-western shore of lake Trogitis (Liv. 38.37. 39; Plin. Nat. 5.24). From this town the whole district derived the name of Oroandicus tractus, the inhabitants of which, called Oroandenses or Oroandici (Ὀροανδικοί or Ὀροανδεῖς), possessed, besides the chief town Oroanda, also Misthia and Pappa (Liv. 38.18, 19; Plb. 22.25; Ptol. 5.4.12). Hamilton (Researches, i. p. 478) believes that the ruins he found on the slope of a hill near lake Egerdir, may mark the site of Oroanda: but it would seem that its remains must be looked for a little further east.
