PARU´TAE

PARU´TAE (Παροῦται, Ptol. 6.17.3), a tribe placed by Ptolemy on the outskirts of the Paropamisus in Ariana. It is probable that these people derive their name from the Sanscrit Parvata, meaning mountain tribes.
