PENIEL

PENIEL or PENUEL (i.e. “Face of God,” Εἶδος Θεοῦ, LXX.), a place beyond Jordan, where Jaccb wrestled with the angel (Gen. 32.30), and where a town was afterwards founded by the tribe of Gad. (Judges, 8.8.)
