PHARMACU´SA

PHARMACU´SA (Φαρμακοῦσσα), a small island before the entrance of the bay of Iassus, not far from Cape Poseidion; its distance from Miletus is stated at 120 stadia. In this island Attalus was killed, and near it Julius Caesar was once captured by pirates. (Stadiasm. Mar. May. p. 282; Steph. B. sub voce Suet. Jul. 4; Plut. Caes. 1.) It still bears its ancient name Farmaco.
