SU´CCABAR

SU´CCABAR (Ζουχάβαρρι, Ptol. 4.2.25, 3.20, 13.13.11), a town in the interior of Manretania Caesariensis, lying to the SE. of the month of the Chinalaph, and a Roman colony with the name of Colonia Augusta (Plin. Nat. 5.2. s. 1). It appears in Ammianus Marcellinus under the name of Oppidum Sugabarritanum (29.5). Mannert (10.2. p. 451) would identify it with the present Mazuna, where Leo Africanus (Lohrsbach, p. 382) found considerable remains of an ancient city, with inscriptions, &c.
