THERAMBOS
THERAMBOS or
THRAMBUS (
Θεράμβως,
Hdt. 7.123;
Θράμβος,
Steph. B. sub voce Θραμβηΐς,
Scylax, p. 26;
Θραμβουσία δειράς, Lycophr. 1404), a town of the peninsula Pallene, in Chalcidice in Macedonia, is called a promontory by Stephanus B., and is hence supposed by Leake (
Northern Greece, vol. iii. p. 156) to have occupied a position very near the promontory Canastraeum, the most southerly point of Pallene; but from the order of the names in Scylax we would rather place it at the promontory upon the western side of the peninsula, called Posidium by Thucydides (
4.129).
