TIERNA

TIERNA (called by Ptol. Δίερνα, 3.8.10), a town of Dacia on the Danube, opposite to the castle of Zernes (Old Orsova) in Moesia. In inscriptions we find it called Statio Tsiernensis (Murat. p. 332. 3; Griselini, i. p. 265); in the Digest (de Cens. 1.8), Colonia Zernensium; and in the Not. Imp. (100.3), Trans Diernis.
