VABAR

VABAR a river of Mauretania Caesariensis, which fell into the sea a little to the W. of Saldae. Ptolemy (4.2.9) mentions it under the name of Οὔαβαρ as if it had been a town; and Maffei (Mus. Ver. p. 463) thought that he had discovered such a place in the name of Bavares, in an African inscription (cf. Orelli, Inscr. no. 529). In Pliny (5.2. s. 1) and Mela (1.6) the name is erroneously written Nabar. It is probably the present Buberak.
