Αἴα_ς : Ajax.—(1) Τελαμώνιος, Τελαμωνιάδης, μέγας, ‘the greater,’ son of Telamon from Salamis, half - brother of Teucer; second only to Achilles in prowess, Od. 11.550 f.—(2) Ὀι_λιάδης, Ὀι_λῆος ταχὺς Αἴα_ς, μείων, ‘the lesser,’ Oileus' son, leader of Locrians, his death, Od. 4.499.—The two heroes are often coupled in dual or pl., e. g. Αἴαντε δύω, θεράποντες Ἀρῆος, ‘the Ajaxes.’
