ἀμφί-πολος (πέλομαι): female attendant, handmaid; ἀμφίπολος ταμίη, ἀμφίπολοι γυναῖκες, but regularly subst.; the noble dame of the heroic period is constantly attended by one or more of her maids when she appears in public, Od. 1.331; distinguished from δμωαί, Od. 22.483 f.
