ἀντί (cf. ἄντα), never suffers elision in Homer (ἄντ̓ = ἄντα, ἀντἴ = ἀντία): prep. w. gen., against (as an equivalent, not local), instead of, in return for; ἀντί νυ πολλῶν | λα_ῶν ἐστὶν ἀνὴρ ὅν τε Ζεὺς κῆρι φιλήσῃ, Il. 9.116, Ψ 650, Il. 24.254.
